Flight to Port Blair by SpiceJet
SpiceJet has now gone live with its roving agent project at the Mumbai and Delhi airports and plans to implement it in all the 15 airports it flies to in phases. Speaking to Express AviationWorld, Prem Chandra, general manager (IT) for the airline said, "We were testing this concept since the past four months and went live with this project in August."
Chandra laid emphasis on the fact that the metros would be targeted first because of the high passenger load. This will be followed by smaller cities like Jaipur, Goa, Guhwati, Varnasi, Kochin. Kingfisher Airlines was the first carrier to implement such a project in the country and has seen positive results from the same.SpiceJet had initially inducted 10 handheld PDAs and Bluetooth-enabled mobile printers and worked on the application by itself. The cost of one unit (handheld device and mobile printer) is said to be between Rs 70,000 to Rs 80,000. Chandra continues, "We worked on the application ourselves and have installed an API server which connects with Navitaire, our CRS, and confirms the passenger data before issuing the boarding pass."SpiceJet plans to use two units at all airports it flies to (total of 30) and will accordingly order additional units. Also, the carrier will start flying to Coimbatore and Port Blair from October, which would be considered for this project as well.
