Visually Challenged needs house sites
The Association for the Rights of the Visually Challenged has appealed to the Government to provide them with house sites, especially in accessible areas.In a resolution passed in this regard at its Annual General Meeting, the association has also demanded the setting up of Braille libraries in the State.Exclusive coaches for those with physical disabilities should be made available on all trains, all routes and all days, General Secretary of the Association, M. Bernal Robert, said.
Announcement facility for persons with visual impairment to know the coach position on the platform should be arranged. Persons with physical disability or visual impairment could not avail of the concessions offered by the Postal Department, he added. Authorities should take steps to create awareness and send circulars to post offices. Those with normal vision who get married to those with visual impairment were given financial assistance by the Government.The Association demanded the removal of the income ceiling for the assistance. If the person marrying a visually impaired woman was unemployed, he should be given priority in Government employment. It also demanded the Tamil Nadu Government to introduce a Readers’ allowance for school teachers with visual impairment.
