Identity cards were issued to 60 washermen in the city on Friday, as part of efforts to make them avail of benefits to be provided by the welfare board set up for manual workers in the State.Coimbatore Corporation South Zone Chairman P. Pynthamil gave away the cards and said in a press release that this was the first phase of the distribution.Various benefits to be provided by the board included an accident insurance of Rs. 1 lakh, a solatium of Rs. 15,000 for natural death, a funeral assistance of Rs. 2,000, marriage assistance of Rs. 2,000, maternity assistance of Rs. 6,000 and Rs. 300 pension.
