Nutrition week celebrations @ Avinashilingam Univ
One should be intelligent, not emotional when choosing food, said J.S.Bhuvaneswaran, Cardiologist, PSG Hospitals.Speaking at the valedictory function of the nutrition week celebrations at the Avinashilingam University, he explained that food was fundamental to health and categorised various types of food as ‘sathwik,’ ‘rajaswik’ and ‘thamaswik.’ This classification was based on the Vedas and the healthiest food according to the Vedas was a combination of both ‘satwik’ and ‘rajaswik,’ he said.
The human heart had two aspects, the physical and the emotional. Both the aspects of the heart were important to the human being. While one governed the most important function in the body, the other governed the mind, he added. Sathyavathi Muthu, Dean and Faculty of Home Science, spoke about the importance of traditional foods for a healthy living. The celebrations, organised by the Department of Food Science and Nutrition and the Nutrition Association, was centred on the concept, “Nutrition Promotion for a Stronger Nation.”
