Review the arrangements made for peaceful Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrations
Collector Neeraj Mittal recently held a meeting to review the arrangements made for ensuring the peaceful conduct of the Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrations and the subsequent immersion processions.The meeting was attended by revenue officials, Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore Rural District, G. Karthikeyan and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), P. Sugumar.
The Collector said the administration had already requested the organisers of the festival to go in for only eco-friendly idols made of papier-mâché and burnt clay and to avoid idols made of plaster of paris and chemicals. The organisers have been clearly told that installation of idols and celebrations would be permitted only as per the permission granted during the year 2006.They have been requested to avoid tall idols to prevent them from coming into contact with live wires while being taken on a procession for immersion.A total of 14-places permitted for immersion have already been notified clearly. The police have also briefed the organisers on the security arrangements to be undertaken by them.
