Road expansion plan

The District Administration has drawn up an action plan to evict major encroachments on the arterial roads and highways that run through the city.District Collector Neeraj Mittal has prepared an action plan for identification of encroachments on 14 major roads in the city that are under the control of the State Highways (SH) and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
Fixing a time frame of 45 to 50 days for identification of encroachments, Mr. Mittal has constituted a committee comprising Tahsildars V.Subramanian (South), N. Santhanam (North) with the engineers from the SH and NHAI.The authorities were expected to commence the eviction of encroachments by September-end and would go on simultaneously even as the authorities complete the survey.

The basic objective of the exercise was to clear the encroachments to make adequate carriage way for the free flow of traffic. The roads identified for the exercise included the Nanjundapuram Road (from Ramanathapuram Junction to Chettiplayam via Nanjundapuram/Podanur), North Coimbatore to Marudhamalai Road, Siruvani Road, Thadagam Road from Coimbatore to Anaikatti, Siruvani Main Road, Madampatti Road, Valankulam Bypass Road, State Bank Road, Kamarajar Road from Singanallur to Hope College, Sullivan Street, NH 67 from Sivanananda Colony towards Mettuppalayam, Avarampalayam Road, Maniyakarampalayam Road and Telungupalayam Road.


In the first phase, the authorities have begun the survey work for identifying the encroachments on Nanjundapuram Road from Ramanathapuram Junction to Podanur and in the next phase Podanur to Chettipalayam would be taken up.As part of the State Highway project for improving the road 18.6 km road from North Coimbatore to Podanur the authorities have completed the widening and strengthening of the stretch from Gandhipuram to Ramanathapuram.
