The Special Task Force along with the Coimbatore Rural District Police started combing operations in the reserve forests in Mettupalayam area on Saturday.The combing operations in search of the Naxals gain significance after the Naxal attacks in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh on former Chief Minister Janardhana Reddy. The Western Ghats was once a prominent den of the Naxal activists. The team armed with automatic weapons commenced operation in Kandavayal, Lingapuram and Sirumugai forest areas. The operation will continue, the police sources said.
