TN govt to seek opinion on Maudhany's acquittal
The Tamil Nadu Government will consult legal experts before deciding on filing an appeal, challenging the acquittal of People's Democratic party (PDP) leader Abdul Nasser Maudhany in the 1998 Coimbatore serial blasts case.At a press conference here, in which the Chief Secretary and Secretaries of all departments were present, Home Secretary S Malathi said "we have not received the copy of the judgement. Once we receive it, we will get the legal opinion." BJP National Spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad had yesterday demanded that the Tamil Nadu Government challenge in the apex court, the Special Court order acquitting Maudhany in the blasts case.About 58 people were killed and more than 200 injured in the February 14, 1998, blasts that rocked the textile city, minutes before BJP leader L K Advani was to attend an election meeting.
