Vasantha memorial trust's annual sales
The Vasantha Memorial Trust is back with the eighth Annual Jumble Sale in Coimbatore – this time with a lot more furniture and electronic goods, including computers. The funds raised at the sale will be used for the treatment and rehabilitation of cancer patients.One could shop for almost anything apart from clothes and footwear at the sale. Utensils, domestic appliances, air coolers, refrigerators, television sets, music systems, crockery, decorative and antique items, bicycles, motorcycles and cars being some of them.
The items have been donated by more than 600 households in Coimbatore, Chennai, Mumbai, Tirupur and Tiruchi. Volunteers of the trust started collecting the items since July. “The response from the public in donating used items has been good this year,” says J. Ramanath, Trustee. The sale conducted last year had about 16 lorry loads of items all of which were sold out in a day, Dr. Ramanath says. The amount raised was Rs. 5.14 lakh.The volunteers while going from door-to-door for collecting materials also campaign for the cause of the cancer-afflicted. Though it is mainly aimed at the lower middle class, this year, it will showcase products for all classes. “Especially with items such as exquisite crockery, the middle class and even the upper middle class can visit the sale,” says Meenakshi Selvaraj, a volunteer. Most of the products can be obtained for one-tenth the actual price. It will have 25 stalls with a special enclosure for furniture. The one-day sale will be held on September 23 at the Devanga Higher Secondary School, near Archana Theatre, off Mettupalayam Road.
