3 police dogs retired
Three canine sleuths of the City Police Dog Squad were served with retirement orders on completion of eight years of service. They will be provided with a maintenance allowance of Rs. 44 per day for food.The orders were handed over by the Commissioner of Police, C.K. Gandhirajan, at the monthly parade of the City Police on Friday. In addition, the Commissioner also handed over orders to the police officers for Good Service Entry, cash rewards to police personnel besides postings to a place of their choice for personnel. Recognising the good work of the canine sleuths would go a long way in ensuring good performance, Mr. Gandhirajan said.
The squad had seven dogs specialised in sniffing explosives and narcotics besides tracking down criminals. Of these, two tracker dogs - Sita (Alsatian) and Madhavi (Labrador) and explosives sniffer Pari (Labrador) retired. Promotion orders for seven grade I constables as Head Constables and three Grade II constables as Grade I and three transfer orders were given at the parade.A total of 11,000 cash rewards totalling Rs. 5.8 lakh were given in the last seven months and on Friday, 68 officers were given good service entry and 327 cash rewards were also presented.
