1st time in India operation w/o puncture
A city hospital claimed to have successfully removed gall bladder stones without making any puncture in the body, using a technique which has been introduced in the country for the first time. Three patients have been successfully treated for the disorder using the new technique, 'Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopy Surgery', in which the gall bladder stones were removed through mouth, anus or vagina, Dr C Palanivelu, Director, GEM Hospital India, said on Wednesday. The endoscopic surgery is performed in a totally bloodless manner and the patient can go home on the same day after treatment, he said. The new surgery takes nearly two hours to be completed, Palanivelu said. The new method also named 'no scar surgery’ was introduced at Strasburg in France two months back and subsequently two more centres in Europe conducted endoscopic removal of gallstone, one through mouth and another through vagina, Palanivelu said. Gem has also performed removal of appendix in five patients using endoscopic method, which was presented at the International Notes Conference in Boston in May last, he said. He also said that Dr P S Rajan, a senior consultant of the hospital would present this technique at the International Conference of Asian Surgery at Beijing next month.
