Coimbatore traffic police got computer

City Police Commissioner C.K. Gandhirajan presents a computer to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), S. Manoharan, as part of the modernisation of police administration.Skills in handling a lathi, baton or a fire arm is not enough for police officers to ensure speedy administration. They should become tech savvy and carry out the tasks at the click of a mouse.Instead of sticking to conventional and archaic practices like sending tapals to senior officers, now they will send emails.

In the first phase of modernisation of police stations, records have been stored in computers. The old rickety typewriting machines have paved way for key boards to enter, peruse and retrieve records.Ten police offices in the city have been provided with modern computers by the Commissioner of Police, C.K. Gandhirajan at the City Police office on Wednesday. Now the offices of the Commissioner of Police, Deputy Commissioners of Police for Law and Order, Crime, Traffic and Headquarters are computerised besides the offices of the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Intelligence Section and Crime Record Bureau.

Three computers have been provided to the administrative wings of the City Police Office. The officers are expected to have a database that could be retrieved at the click of a mouse rather than asking the police stations for files of old cases and records relating to habitual offenders and those in history-sheets and adverse notice.Retrieval of records and making of copies would become easy, officers said. Every office is being provided with constables who are trained in computer operations.
