Foundries withdraw strike
The small and tiny foundries that downed shutters here since October 22 have withdrawn the strike.A press release from the Coimbatore Tiny and Small Foundry Owners’ Association said that the units had gone on strike in protest against the steep increase in raw material prices. The association members had met Rural Industries Minister Pongalur N. Palanisamy, Coimbatore MP, K. Subbarayan and the officials of the Tamil Nadu Small Industries Development Corporation. They sought supply of raw materials to the units through the corporation and also customs duty exemption for some of these materials. The association members decided to call off the strike temporarily at a meeting held here on Saturday since they expected measures by the Government soon to overcome the raw material price problem.
