Heavy rain disrupted normal life
Dampness caused by heavy rain resulted in the class room of a private school on Avanashi Road collapsing late on Monday night.Normal life was disrupted in the city following heavy rain till late night on Monday.The rain inundated several roads and low-lying areas across the city throwing the traffic completely out of gear. Falling of tree branches resulted in disruption of power supply in many of the areas. Mayor R. Venkatachalam on Tuesday morning visited the water-logged areas. Efforts to flush out the stagnant water from Karumbukkadai area into the Ukkadam tank resulted in traffic snarl on Tuesday morning.Roofs of the Tamil Nadu Housing Board house at Ganapathy Maanagar came down owing to the dampness caused by the rain.A portion of the building in a reputed school on Avanashi Road also collapsed on Monday late night.The Collector, Neeraj Mittal, has deputed the tahsildars to visit the affected areas and to report the damages.Mr. Venkatachalam and Commissioner P. Muthuveeran have ordered the Corporation employees to be in a state of readiness round-the-clock to render any assistance to the revenue and police administration in the relief and rescue works.
