Normal Chlorine level

Corporation officials checking the chlorine content at the Main Service Reservoir at Saravanampatty on Tuesday.The civic authorities have commenced checking the chlorine level in drinking water as a precautionary measure following rain in catchment areas of Siruvani and Pilloor.The samples collected on Tuesday revealed normal chlorine level.On Monday, the Mayor, R. Venkatachalam, on receipt of complaints about excessive chlorine in the water requested the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board authorities to monitor the treatment process.

He directed the Corporation officials to constantly check the level at the distribution reservoirs.Following the orders of the Corporation Commissioner, P. Muthuveeran, Engineering Department has constituted a team. The water supply Engineers of the Corporation commenced an exercise to check the chlorine content in the water at the distribution reservoirs such as High Level Reservoir at Bharati Park, Low Level Reservoir at Gandhipark and at the Main Service Reservoir (MSR) at Saravanampatty, Puliakulam and Varadarajapuram.On Tuesday, Assistant Engineer, K. Karuppasamy, along with his team collected water samples from the MSR at Saravanampatty and from houses to check the chlorine level. According to officials water should have a chlorine level of .4 mg per litre (earlier measured in terms of parts per million) at the treatment plant and pumping end and it should be maintained at the level of .2 mg at the distribution end.The authorities have requested the public to boil the water before drinking.
