Management meet at TNAU
Students trying to find their way in the ‘Treasure Hunt’ game, during the Management Meet at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in the city.Though the secondary and tertiary sectors of manufacturing and services are witnessing tremendous growth, the agricultural growth rate needs to be boosted further through advanced research, S. Pattabiraman, Deputy General Manager, Corporation Bank, Regional Office, Coimbatore, said here.Inaugurating the two-day inter-collegiate management meet, “MIDAS ‘07”, at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, organised by the Department of Agricultural and Rural Management, he said that use of modern technologies, biotechnological applications and food processing would also help in boosting agricultural growth. Paper presentations, business plan contest, treasure hunt, one minute act, ad mime and best management team contest, formed part of the meet.Students from several management schools participated.K. Palanisami, Director, Centre for Agricultural and Rural Development Studies, TNAU, underlined the importance of thinking globally and acting locally.At the valediction, P.N. Patel, Deputy General Manger and Circle Head, Indian Bank, said that farm graduates had many opportunities to start and manage agro-based business.“They also perform better than other graduates in the banking sector, thanks to the curriculum and the orientation they get during their education.”Vice-Chancellor C. Ramasamy said that the Asian Development Bank had predicted a 10 per cent growth in the economy.“The emergence of new sectors such as aviation show us that the world is getting flatter and flatter day by day. Countries are getting interconnected due to business and trade.”Mr. Patel gave away prizes to the winners.
