Nilgiri's tea to be registered in GI
On the lines of Darjeeling teas, the popular Nilgiri’s high-grown brokens and Assam Orthodox teas will soon be registered under geographical indication (GI), said Basudeb Banerjee, the chairman of Tea Board. The logo for the Nilgiri tea is ready and registration is likely in November. The registration with Indian Registry at Chennai would facilitate easier marketing and higher price realisation, he added.
