Pillor water pumping resumed

The Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD) authorities on Thursday evening resumed the pumping of water. It is expected to reach Coimbatore Corporation areas early morning on Friday. The TWAD Board had announced a shut down in water supply under the Pilloor scheme for two-days on Tuesday and Wednesday for taking up emergency maintenance works, including installation of bypass arrangements, near the valves besides attending to a few leaks, near Veerapandi.Though the works got completed a little behind schedule by 10 p.m. on Wednesday, the authorities commenced the pumping of water by late night.

Subsequently, they noticed some trouble in the main pipeline. The supply was suspended once again by midnight. This resulted in the city and a number of wayside habitations not getting the water supply on Thursday as promised. After rectifying the trouble, the authorities switched on the first motor at around 6.30 p.m. on Thursday. It had been scheduled to switch on the remaining three motors in a phased manner as the water crosses the Kattan Hills, Karattumedu and Main Service Reservoir at Ramakrishnapuram. This was being done to avoid sudden spurt in pressure in the main pipeline especially after they having remained empty for the last three days.Air locks and pressure caused by water could cause bursts in the pipeline, hence was the decision, TWAD Board officials said.Authorities are confident of switching on all the four motors by Friday morning.
