A downpour that began on Wednesday evening lashed the city and its suburbs till late night paralysing normal life.The heavy rain led to the inundation of city road, including arterial ones. The clogged drains led to the mixing of sewage with rainwater at many places causing hardship to the motorists.Water-logging of roads at Ramanathapuram Junction, Nirmala College, Race Course, Lanka Corner, Avanashi flyover, Kikani School Junction, North Coimbatore flyover and Sivananda Colony threw traffic out of gear.The inundation resulted in traffic snarls that lasted till midnight at many places.Flooding of residential colonies was also reported. Shutdown of power supply as a precautionary measure and falling of tree branches disrupting power supply also formed part of the rain havoc.Even as the rain continued, the district administration has put the police, revenue and fire and rescue services on high alert and have been instructed to remain in a state of readiness.
