Residents of Thadagam Road and Kanuvai on Wednesday staged a road roko at Kanuvai demanding the shifting of a liquor shop there run by the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC).The residents said that they had already petitioned the Collector’s office and had made representations for shifting the liquor shop, since those under the influence of alcohol were causing disturbance by indulging in drunken brawl. The shop was located on a busy residential and shopping area. Revenue, police and TASMAC officials held talks with the residents and assured them that the process for identifying a place for relocating the shop was on.Following an assurance that the shop would be shifted at the earliest, the agitation was called off.
