Spice Jet takes off from Coimbatore !!
Low-cost airline, Spicejet is awaiting the Government approval to commence its international operations soon, a top company official said on Tuesday.
Announcing the launch of new flights from Coimbatore to Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad from Oct 25, Mr Kamal Hingorani, Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, Spicejet, said here that the company was expecting approval from the Centre from the coming May.
The company was aiming to start its international operations to South East Asia, SAARC countries, Gulf and parts of China. Spicejet is leasing two of its aircraft to Air India for two months for the benefit of Haj pilgrims from Nagpur, Jaipur Varanasi an d Lucknow, he said.
The company has at present 16 fleet operating over 96 daily flights in 16 cities. It would purchase eight more aircraft, including Boeing 737-800 and new version 737-900, before December next.
It has also proposed to buy six new aircraft each every three years, to meet the international travel demand. On the launch from here, Mr Hingorani said three daily flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and twice to Chennai, would make Coimbatore the 17th destination on Spicejet network.
The flight between Coimbatore and Delhi was via Hyderabad, while others would be direct, he said. The company has plans to connect more southern cities in the near future, he said adding Kochi-Goa, Coimbatore-Tirupati and Delhi-Mumbai-Hyderabad-Tirupati route was in the pipeline.
