20 companies bid for pillor phase II

Bids being opened for the Pilloor Phase II drinking water scheme in the presence of Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner P. Muthuveeran (seated right) at the Corporation office in the city on Thursday.The Coimbatore Corporation has received tenders from 20 companies who have evinced interest in implementing the Rs.113-crore Pilloor Phase II drinking water scheme for the Corporation and many panchayats. The Corporation will get more than 60 million litres of water a day under this scheme, in addition to the 65 million litres being supplied now under the first phase.

Commissioner P. Muthuveeran said in a release after the opening of the bids on Thursday that the Corporation had floated global tenders for the scheme to be implemented under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. This was the first invitation of global tenders in the civic body’s history. The bidders included firms such as Ramky Infrastructure, Geo Miller & Co, Hindustan Dorr Oliver Ltd., Kirloskar Brothers Ltd., VA Tech Wabag Ltd, Nagarjuna Construction Co., Ltd., Jothi Engineering Ltd., Koya & Company Ltd., Costal SMC, Subash Projects & Marketing Ltd., Engineering Projects India Ltd. and Indian Hume Pipe Ltd.
Tenders were opened in the presence of the representatives of the bidders and the Tamil Nadu Water Investment Company who had prepared the bid documents. The Commissioner, the City Engineer and the Executive Engineer of the Corporation, Superintending Engineer at the office of the Commissioner of Municipal Administration at Chennai R. Raghunathan and Executive Engineer K. Lakshmanan supervised the bidding process. Technical evaluation of the bids would be taken up soon. Scrutiny and The Commissioner said that the entire process was carried out in a transparent manner and video recorded.The scheme would be implemented in 18 months (after finalisation of bids), as promised in the Corporation’s budget, Mr. Muthuveeran said. Bids from as many as 20 companies were an overwhelming response to the Corporation’s invitation to implement a scheme that was of great significance to the city, he said.
