Awareness on the road accident

Survivors of road accidents at the Avanashi Road - LIC Road Junction in the city on Thursday wearing flex jackets to create awareness on the need for responsible driving habits.In a move to create awareness on the cause for road accidents, the Youth Task Force (YTF) and Accident Research Centre (ARC) in association with the City Police and Polimer TV channel commenced a four-day long awareness generation drive on city roads on Thursday. The founder of YTF and ARC, S. Suresh told The Hindu that the drive was aimed at building up the tempo for the Road Accident Victim’s Day that falls on November 18 (Sunday).The drive would involve accident victims such as survivors, disabled besides the kith and kin of those who died in road accidents lining up on the roads with a flex sheet jacket containing the name, age and cause of accident.This was to remind the motorists on the need for responsible driving habits.

On Thursday, the YTF volunteers along with S. Suresh and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), S. Manoharan started the awareness drive on Avanashi Road wherein nearly 20 survivors of road accidents wore a green flex jacket containing the name, age and cause of accident.On Friday, disabled accident victims would wear an amber coloured flex jacket.On Saturday the kith and kin of those killed in accidents would stand in a line wearing the red coloured flex jacket.On Sunday, the survivors, disabled and the kith and kin of those killed would come together and stand on the road in a bid to generate awareness on responsible driving habits.

The victims may also participate for the four-day programme from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. The victim’s family members would carry these placards and stand on the platform between 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. The participants are requested to contact youth task force for further details.
