Airport employees staged demonstration
Members of the Airport Authority Employees Union (AAEU) on Wednesday staged a demonstration in front of the Coimbatore Airport during lunch hour in protest against the actions initiated against their All India General Secretary.The demonstrators accused the Union Government of targeting M.K. Ghosal by foisting an economic offences case against him.The demonstrators were led by association branch secretary Morris Roy and Central Executive Committee member Manoharan Nair.They said that Mr. Ghoasal was opposing the policy of the Government to privatise airports in the country.Mr. Ghosal was also one of the eight trustees of the Board of the Contributory Provident Fund (CPF) of the Airport Authority Employees.Claiming that AAEU was poised for a comfortable win in the referendum scheduled for November 22 for the recognition of trade unions through a secret ballot, the Government was trying to edge the AAEU out of the race by foisting a false case against him. Of the eight trustees, a case was registered only against Mr. Ghosal through the Central Bureau of Investigations holding him responsible for the investments made from the CPF since the investments fetched only 8 per cent returns as against the assured or projected 12 per cent returns.
