GDTTI to participate in World Skills Competition - Japan

India’s economy has undergone dramatic transformation in the last decade. With one of the youngest population in the world & the only country with a declining age - dependency ratio, India can provide to the graying world what it most needs – a productive workforce. India shall be participating for the first time in the WorldSkills Competition, to be held at Shizouka, Japan from 14 –21 November 2007. Confederation of Indian Industry is representing India in World Skills Competition and taking a team of 30 members to mark its presence in the world skills map. WorldSkills International is a Unique, not for profit, International Membership Organisation.
Its mission is to raise the status and standards of vocational skills and training worldwide, in an innovative and forward looking way. WorldSkills International was established in 1950 and has 49 countries as its members. India will be formally inducted as a Member of WorldSkills International on 12th November07.Every two years, hundreds of young skilled men & women gather together from around the World to compete before the public on 40 skills against demanding International Standards. The competition is open to only young people below the age of 22years. It is called the world Olympics for the skills and is aimed at creating the respect for skills, dignity of labour and create interest amongst youngsters to go for vocational skills and training.

It provides a unique opportunity to network with world community and learn from each other as well as recognize outstanding skilled young people across the world. As India gears up for training its large young work force, Confederation of Indian Industry has taken a lead role in bringing Government, Industry, and Training Centres together and participate in the World Skills Competition for the first time.39th WorldSkills Competition is jointly held along with 7th Abilympics Competition at Shizouka, Japan from 14-18th November 2007. About 3452 Participants from 63 Countries which include 836 Competitors for World Skills Competitions and 425 Contestants from 28 Countries for International Abilympics are taking Part.
WorldSkills Competitions Consist of 40 Skills, 4 Demonstration Skills and 5 Host Member Skills. International Abilympics consist of 30 Skills.India, as the new member, is participating in five skills categories this year. The Competitors and Experts are drawn from Tata Motors, Pune, MICO BOSCH, Bangalore and Gee Dee Technical Training Institute, Coimbatore. CII and the competitors along with their organizations have been preparing very hard on technical and soft skills for this competition for over six months. The enthusiasm & fervor within the Indian team is a clear indication, that India will make its mark, soon on the skills map also.
