Minister reviewed the progress

The State Minister for Forests, N. Selvaraj, on Wednesday reviewed the progress in the ongoing forest department projects in the State. The meeting was attended by Chief Wildlife Warden Sukhdev Thakur, Chief Conservator of Forests C.K. Sridharan, Secretary to Government for Environment and Forests Rajagopal, Conservator of Forests and District Forest Officers.Mr. Selvaraj exhorted the officials to study in detail about the areas where there were frequent man-animal conflicts so as to evolve a policy for handling the problem.

He also urged the officials to expedite the process of installing solar electric fencing. He asked the officials to step up the implementation of the project for growing trees outside the forests. This was to enhance the green cover even outside the forests and also to help the farmers meet the growing demand for timber.The officials were also asked to evolve schemes to fulfil the needs of the tribals living in the reserve forest areas. The review also covered the function of the Tamil Nadu Rubber Corporation and TANTEA.
