Run for Unity programme
Participants at the Run for Unity programme organised by the Shanti Ashram in Coimbatore on Saturday.Over 300 children from a dozen villages near here and a number of representatives from non-Governmental organisations took part in a run-for-unity organised by the Shanti Ashram on Saturday.According to a release from the ashram, it has been conducting this event since 2005 to spread the message of universal brotherhood and unity.
The focus is on being witness to the unity and universal brotherhood of children through sports, finding concrete expressions to practise the Golden Rule- Do to others what you would like them do to you-, encouraging the culture of giving and empathy amongst children and taking the time to know others.The current year programme’s theme was “discovering the other”. Those who took part in the programme included representatives from ASSISSI Snehalaya and Positive Mothers’ Network.Marina Pracchia from Focolare Movement, Vinodini Balasubramanian, Co-ordinator, Namathu Pangu, Kumaraguru College of Technology Community Outreach Program, S.R.Subramanian, Programme Co-ordinator, and Kezvino Aram, Director, Shanti Ashram, spoke.
