Valankulam flyover opend partialy

Minister for Rural Industries Pongalur N.Palanisamy (first car) drives down Valankulam flyover after opening one-way traffic on the bridge on Saturday. The flyover along Valankulam on Sungam Bypass Road in the city was partially opened to traffic on Saturday by Rural Industries Minister Pongalur N. Palanisamy.The flyover was built at Rs.15.40 crore to eliminate the problem of vehicles having to wait at the railway gate along Valankulam.

The Minister said that the flyover would be fully opened to traffic. He announced that a formal opening would be done by Union Minister of State for Railways R. Velu and State Highways Minister M.P. Swaminathan.Mayor R. Venkatachalam, District Collector Neeraj Mittal, City Police Commissioner C.K. Gandhirajan, Deputy Mayor N. Karthik, Coimbatore MP K. Subbarayan and officials of the Department of Highways were among those present at the opening of the flyover on Saturday.Mr. Palanisamy said the flyover was a long-felt need of the city and that the foundation for this one and the others at Ondipudur and on Vilankurichi Road had been laid in 1998.The opening of the Valankulam flyover would help in the full use of Sungam Bypass Road by vehicles bound for Kerala and Pollachi through Ukkadam. Its closure for the flyover work had led to the congestion of Big Bazaar Street and Town Hall.
