Hot topic of the town is the "Power Cut"
The South India Small Spinners’ Association has said that unannounced power cuts in the region have hit the small-scale spinning units.A release from the association said production was hit in the units because of frequent unannounced power cuts.The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board should go in for an area-wise power cut that would help the spinning mills plan production.The Kovai Power Driven Pumps and Spares Manufacturers’ Association has said in a release that the small and tiny industries in this region incurred a loss due to the power cuts.The Government should take steps immediately to ensure power supply to the units. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has deplored the unannounced power cuts.The Coimbatore West District Committee has said in a release here that though the Government had announced schemes to increase power generation, the Electricity Board and the Government should ensure continuous power supply immediately.The Coimbatore District Mill Workers Union has said that the industries were unable to operate three shifts a day due to the power cuts.The district had a large number of textile and engineering units, employing thousands of workers.As the unannounced power cuts hit production, this would lead to unemployment, the Union said.
