Selvakumar handing over saplings to a woman in the city, as part of the Project Green Hands of the Isha foundation.Hinduthan Petroleum Corporation Limited will distribute saplings free of cost through its retail outlets in and around Coimbatore city.It is being done under Project Green Hands of the Isha Foundation. The project was launched by M. Selvakumar, Chief Regional Manager of HPCL; I. Anwardeen, District Forest Officer; and K. Ravindran, General Manager (Marketing) of Suguna Poultry Farm.Mr. Anwardeen lauded Isha Foundation and HPCL for coming together to launch such projects. Afforestation and sustenance of ecology required the participation of everyone possible in the community. With the two successive monsoons having recharged the ground water level adequately, this was the ideal time to plant saplings, Mr. Anwardeen said. Mr. Ethirajulu of the Isha Foundation said that Isha Foundation plans to plant 11.4 crore trees by 2010 under the project. It was expected to increase the green cover by 10 per cent in Tamil Nadu. As a beginning, Isha Foundation planted 8.58 lakh saplings on October 17, 2006, involving 2.58 lakh volunteers in 27 districts of Tamil Nadu.
Mr. Selvakumar said that 40 outlets of HPCL would source the saplings from Isha yoga and water them till they were handed over to the public for planting them.
