Minor landslip

Uprooting of a few bamboo shoots and resultant minor landslip near Burliyar on the Mettuppalayam– Udhagamandalam ghat road resulted in traffic being hit in the small hours of Wednesday.The downpour that lashed the Nilgiris in the last 36 hours led to loose soil which resulted in the bamboo shoots getting uprooted and falling on ghat road.The traffic was suspended on the ghat road and vehicles diverted via Kotagiri Road on either side at Mettuppalayam and Coonoor. With the suspension of traffic, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials from Coimbatore rushed manpower and machinery such as earth movers to remove the bamboo shoots and boulders.
