Coimbatore AU gears up globaly

Anna University, Coimbatore, gears up to set up its overseas centres either with government participation or private tie-ups. Since it had received requests from several NRIs , the Syndicate has approved the proposal to set up overseas centres in Dubai, Muscat, Bahrain, Kuwait, Singapore, Malasiya and Japan. As a large number of Indians are settled in these countries, it is necessary to offer quality education in emerging areas of management, engineering and technology at an affordable cost, the syndicate noted. The varsity will approach the Centre with the support of the State Government to obtain clearance on the proposal. If it's okayed, AU will be the first government varsity in the country to start overseas centres.

The Syndicate had also approved the proposal to open learning centres for distance education and online programmes. It was pointed out at the Syndicate meeting that if the university opens more than 100 centres in India and overseas, it could admit at least 20,000 students for distance education. The Syndicate has decided to do away with lateral entry in MCA/M.Sc courses to have a uniform standard for full-time and part-time programmes. It approved plans to offer 45 new programmes in MBA, diploma, PG diploma and advanced diploma through distance education.
