Computerised learner’s licence at RTO

The Regional Transport Office (North) will soon start issuing dedicated i.e., computerised learner’s licence and the facility is likely to be extended to all other RTOs in the circle before the end of this year, the Deputy Transport Commissioner, Coimbatore Circle, T. Gunasekaran said on Saturday.Talking to newspersons, Mr. Gunasekaran said that RTO North would soon start issuing the licence wherein the computer would award marks for qualifying or disqualifying an applicant for licence. This would eliminate room for complaints of corruption.

He also said that RTOs and designated Public Relations Officers would remain in their office from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. every day for the public to meet and voice their grievances. The public should desist from approaching brokers and also from buying application forms at a price. All the required applications printed by the Government are available free of cost at the RTOs, he said.Dealers who hand over new vehicles to the buyers before registration would be dealt with severely and the new vehicles plied on the road without registration would be confiscated as per the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act section 39 and Central Motor Vehicle Rules 42.

A new vehicle getting involved in an accident before registration would result in the owner foregoing the insurance claim, he added. In terms of revenue realisation by way of collection of fee, surcharge, service charge, tax and all other remittances due to Government, the Coimbatore circle was given a target of Rs 263.4 crore and of which as on January 31, 2008 Rs. 209.9 crore had been realised.
