Drive against violation
The Transport Department, Coimbatore Circle conducted a two-day long drive against violation of motor vehicle rules at over ten places in Coimbatore, Erode and the Nilgiris districts.In a release that was issued here, the Deputy Transport Commissioner, Coimbatore Circle, T. Gunasekaran said that the two day drive was primarily conducted by the respective Regional Transport Officers, Motor Vehicle Inspectors of the respective jurisdictions and enforcement team.During the drive, the officials intercepted over 1,482 vehicles of which cases were registered against 229 vehicles.The drive focussed on rule violations by Educational Institution vehicles, National Carriage Permit vehicles, cargo vehicles, mini buses, omni buses, maxi-cabs, tourist taxis, auto-rickshaws and non-transport vehicles.The authorities collected Rs 2,12,285 as tax and Rs 1,30,800 as compounding fee for various offences.
