10th anniversary of bomb blast

The Coimbatore City Police have tightened security in Coimbatore City from Wednesday night to Friday morning in view of the 10th anniversary of the Coimbatore serial blasts and Valentine’s Day.City Police Commissioner C.K. Gandhirajan sought public co-operation to maintain peace and said armed security cover would be provided to vital installations and crowded areas. Three Deputy Commissioners of Police, one Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, 17 Assistant Commissioners of Police, 15 Inspectors, 50 sub-inspectors and over 1,000 police personnel have been mobilised.

As many as 25 jeeps will patrol sensitive areas round-the-clock, besides 37 motor cycle patrols in crime-prone areas. As many as 12 check posts on all arterial and feeder roads have been strengthened.Fourteen sensitive and trouble spots will be under surveillance.The police have been asked to check vehicles, lodges and be vigilant at railway stations and bus stands to prevent infiltration of trouble-makers from outside.Armed guards will be posted at party offices and offices of religious outfits.Every police station has been brought under the direct supervision of an officer in the rank of an Assistant Commissioner of Police and every sub-division will be under the control of an officer in the rank of a Deputy Commissioner of Police. Anti-sabotage teams of the bomb detection and disposal squad of the Coimbatore City Police have been kept in a state of readiness.

Political parties won’t be allowed to hold public meetings, demonstrations and dharnas on February 14 and no activities of any kind will be permitted in R.S. Puram–DB Road areas.Security measures have been stepped for Valentine’s Day to prevent incidents of eve-teasing and indecent acts/behaviour by couples in VOC Park, Singanallur Boat Club, cinema theatres, Agri University Park, Race Course, R.S. Puram, places of worship and important restaurants.Police personnel in jeeps and on motor cycles, both in uniform and plainclothes, will patrol these areas.Indecent behaviour would be dealt with seriously under the relevant provisions of law, the police said.
