Foundry park inaugurated

The Coimbatore Tiny and Small Foundry Owners’ Association (COSMAFAN) and the Coimbatore Industrial Infrastructure Association (COINDIA) inaugurated on Sunday the common facilities created at the foundry park at Arasur, near here.A release from the associations said that the foundry association procured 102 acres at Arasur and 45 acres at Manickampalayam to create common premises (foundry parks) with state-of-the-art facilities for its members. The 350 members units now produced nearly 2.7 lakh tonnes of castings and this was expected to double with the implementation of the cluster project. The foundries would also be able to explore export opportunities by improving the product quality.

The common facilities were created under the Industrial Infrastructure Upgradation Project, which was implemented for the foundries and pumpset units here by COINDIA.It had invested nearly Rs. 10 crore on the two parks to create common infrastructure. The Arasur park would have nearly 100 foundries. It had facilities such as office premises, meeting hall, laboratory, crèche and weigh bridge apart from water connections and roads.
Two acres had been allotted for the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board to establish a sub-station.The release said that the laboratory had facilities for chemical tests, spectrometer, microscope testing, and also to evaluate the mechanical properties of different metals. COINDIA was creating more infrastructure to the tune of Rs. 75 lakhs for the small foundries here.The common facility works were completed at the Arasur park and were inaugurated on Sunday. District Collector Neeraj Mittal and Coimbatore MP, K. Subbarayan, attended the inaugural function.
