Kovai Bharathi Science Park

A science park is coming up on Bharathiar University campus at Coimbatore, with an investment of Rs.300 crore.One hundred and fifty industries in Coimbatore and Tirupur may locate their research facilities in the ‘Kovai Bharathi Science Park,’ which will become operational within a year.Three rounds of meetings between university officials and industrialists have been held.Vice-Chancellor G. Thiruvasagam told on Monday that land allotment documents were being prepared.The work would commence next month.The university has earmarked 100 acres for the facility, besides contributing Rs.1 crore in seed money.

The participating industries would be allotted space based on their requirements and investment.He said a governing board had been constituted with representatives of the university, industry and chambers of commerce as members to execute the project.He was in the city to inaugurate the ‘Industry Institution Interface Week,’ organised by the Department of Commerce, Yadava College, inviting business and management experts.Dr. Thiruvasagam said the money for the park was being raised from the industries.To start with, it would have the participation of textiles, paint, confectionery and pharmaceutical units.“This project is an example of industry-institution partnership. Our students and faculty stand to gain by way of placement and consultancy,” Dr. Thiruvasagam said.
