The Coimbatore city police have commenced coordinated investigation into the case relating to the robbing of a nine-mm pistol by a ten-member sandalwood smuggling gang.The Coimbatore rural district police have been roped in. Already, City Police Commissioner C.K. Gandhirajan had formed five special teams, which are pursuing vital clues especially about the likely involvement of a Kerala-based sandalwood smuggling gang.

One of the teams had started monitoring the activities of sandalwood oil factories and their source of wood supply. The officials held a coordination meeting on Monday and Deputy Superintendents of Police of sub-divisions in Coimbatore district along with the heads of the special teams probing the incident attended it.The decisions taken were reviewed by City Police Commissioner Gandhirajan and the Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore Rural District, G. Karthikeyan.
