Private Company support for public

M. Raja (left), Managing Director, Raja Steels, donating 40 barricades worth Rs. 1.6 lakh to City Police Commissioner C.K. Gandhirajan (second right) in the city on Thursday.Kovai Raja Steels, a private firm, on Thursday, presented 40 iron barricades to the city police. The barricades, each worth Rs 4,000, were handed over to Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City, C.K. Gandhirajan, by M. Raja, Managing Director of Kovai Raja Steels, in the presence of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) S. Manoharan.

Appreciating the gesture, Mr. Gandhirajan said with the traffic increasing on city roads and newer areas getting added to the city, there was a demand for more barricades. The barricades are used for regulating traffic, segregating parking and no-parking areas, separating vehicle way and pedestrian path and also for crowd control at various occasions.Considering road rule violations in the absence of the traffic police, the police were placing barricades at all major junctions. This has resulted in greater demand for barricades. As the government and the police department would not be able to manage the entire funds, the participation of the private corporate firms would be of immense help.

In fact, private participation in sponsoring reflective jackets and rubber painting road-marks and barricades would help in ensuring road-safety, the Commissioner said. Those willing to support the efforts of the City Police could approach office of the Commissioner of Police or the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic).
