TN retired revenue officers association's demand
The Tamil Nadu Retired Revenue Officers’ Association demanded at its recent State Executive Committee meeting here that more teeth should be given to the Right to Information Act.Association State president A. Raju and general secretary K. Nagasubramaniam have said in a statement that it was necessary as the Act was a powerful democratic weapon in the hands of the public to enjoy the rights enshrined in the Constitution. The meeting called for the appointment of more information commissioners and support staff to avoid delay in disposing of cases filed under the Act. The association also wondered why the Government was not utilising the services of retired revenue officers. Earlier meetings had passed resolutions recommending their appointment as honorary magistrates and their inclusion in district-level committees to render quick and effective services.The other demands included 50 per cent concession in fare for travel in all State transport corporation buses and allowing the retired officials to function as revenue administration practitioners.
It also suggested decentralisation of powers among revenue officials so that public service could be quick. As in Andhra Pradesh, Deputy Tahsildars should be appointed as head of firkas with full control over revenue inspectors and village office staff.
