Autorickshaw Drivers March
Members of various trade unions of autorickshaw drivers staging a march in the city on Tuesday demanding implementation of meter fare and condemning the hike in prices of petrol and diesel.The members of the federation of all autorickshaw drivers union that form the joint struggle committee took out a protest rally in the city on Tuesday demanding implementation of meter fare system and also in protest against the steep hike in prices of petroleum products.Demands included immediate implementation of meter fare system
The members of almost all trade unions marched from V.K.K. Menon Road via Avarampalayam Road, Pappanaickenpalayam Junction, Dr. Balasundaram Road (RTO office Road) and reached Red Cross Society Buildings on Huzur Road where they staged a demonstration pressing for a charter of demands.The demands included immediate implementation of meter fare system (with reasonable and viable fare structure), protesting the hike in petrol and diesel prices, demanding distribution of petrol and diesel through public distribution system, a ban on issue of new autorickshaw permits by the transport department.
