Koniamman Temple's car festival
The city police have announced certain changes in the traffic pattern to be enforced on March 5 afternoon on Big Bazaar Street and in west Coimbatore area in view of the car festival of the Koniamman Temple.A release from City Police Commissioner C.K. Gandhirajan said that traffic diversions would be in force from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Vehicles entering the city from Palakkad Road and Pollachi Road would not be permitted to take Oppanakkara Street. Entry into Vincent Road from Ukkadam side would not be permitted, since the stretch had already been declared as one-way.Vehicles from Avanashi Road flyover and Lanka Corner should have to take Big Bazaar Street and Vincent Road to reach Ukkadam. Buses would be permitted to go via Town Hall and Raja Theatre to reach Ukkadam but vehicles would not be permitted to enter Vysial Street via Judka corner.
Vehicles especially heavy vehicles and mini-lorries from old flyover towards Thadagam Road and Mettupalayam Road should take Brooke Bond Road and they would not be permitted to take Sukrawarpet Road.Trucks and mini-trucks would not be allowed on Avanashi Road.Hence those coming from Mettupalayam Road would have to take Brooke Bond Road and Goods Shed Road to proceed further.Vehicles especially heavy vehicles and light vehicles from Thadagam Road towards Palakkad would have to go via Ponniahrajapuram, Chockampudur, Shivalaya Theatre junction and Perur Bypass Road to reach the Ukkadam junction.
Similarly, vehicles from Perur i.e., trucks and light vehicles proceeding towards Palakkad Road should take Perur Bypass Road.Vehicles bound for other places in the city should go through Shivalaya Theatre Junction, Chockampudur, Ponniahrajapuram, Thadagam Road and Gandhipark to proceed further.As in practice, entry of trucks into the city would be banned from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. and again from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.Mr. Gandhirajan has sought the cooperation of the public in ensuring smooth flow of traffic.
