The meeting took place at the Mangarai Forest Rest House near Thadagam
The Tamil Nadu side was represented by the Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City, C.K. Gandhirajan, Inspector-General of Police, West Zone, Sanjay Arora, DIG of Police, Coimbatore Range, Seema Agrawal, Superintendents of Police G. Karthikeyan (Coimbatore Rural District) and P. Sugumar (Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the CB-CID), Conservator of Forests, Coimbatore circle, R. Kannan and the Coimbatore District Forest Officer, I. Anwardeen.The Kerala side was represented by Superintendent of Police, Palakkad district, Vijay Chakre, and Wildlife Warden of Silent Valley National Park, Chandra Sekharan. Deputy Superintendents of Police from Coimbatore district, Assistant Commissioners of Police from city, and forest range officers from either side were also present.
The meeting discussed the functioning of sandalwood smuggling gangs, weapons used by them and forest offenders operating on either side of the border. The officials also exchanged details, data and photographs relating to the forest offenders and those indulging in offences across the border. A suggestion for imparting special training to the police and forest personnel by the Special Task Force was also discussed at length.
They also discussed the February 23 incident in which sandalwood smugglers had assaulted two police personnel and snatched their nine mm pistol while smuggling sandalwood tree at Bharathi Park in Saibaba Colony area.The officials also exchanged details, data and photographs relating to the offenders for stepping up vigil and for recovery of firearms.
