Clash Between BJP Workers

Tension prevailed at a hotel in Gandhipuram on Monday when two groups of BJP workers owing allegiance to former MP and All India Executive Committee member C.P. Radhakrishnan and party’s State President L. Ganesan clashed over the issue of the removal of two supporters of Mr. Radhakrishnan from party posts.

Mr. Ganesan was in Coimbatore to inaugurate a party office in Ganapathy

Mr. Radhakrishnan along with his supporters went to the hotel when Mr. Ganesan arrived there. The leaders were surrounded by the supporters of both the groups and the leaders had to jostle for space to make their way to the room.

The leaders held two rounds of discussions, wherein Mr. Radhakrishnan is said to have expressed concern on issues involving the party’s organisational posts and also expressed displeasure at reports about two of his nominees Manivannan of North Zone and A.T. Rajan of East Zone being removed from the posts. Even as the discussions were on, the workers of both the sides clashed resulting in fisticuff and commotion.

Two party workers were admitted to the hospital with injuries sustained during the fisticuff.Supporters of Mr. Radhakrishnan said that the district observer who should visit and oversee the executive committee meetings was neither convening the meetings nor attending them. Citing non-conduct of executive committee meetings, the zonal presidents were removed.

When contacted, Mr. Ganesan denied reports that the party workers had clashed. He said that Mr. Radhakrishnan expressed certain opinions concerning the party’s organisational issues and the same was discussed.Mr. Ganesan also announced that the two zonal presidents would continue to remain in the posts.
