Water Cut Who Were Not Paid Tax

Corporation officials disconnecting a water line to a premises on Sathyamangalam Road in Ganapathy on Tuesday. Coimbatore Corporation authorities have intensified drive to realise property tax arrears by disconnecting drinking water connections. According to the Corporation sources, Commissioner V.K. Shanmugam directed the officials in all the four zones to carry out an awareness drive for realising the property tax arrears before March 31. The authorities were planning to collect at least Rs. 2 crore a day. The tax collection in all centres was being monitored on a regular basis.

The authorities have so far disconnected 52 drinking water connections across the City. On Tuesday, the teams carried out the disconnection drive on Sathyamangalam Road, Food Corporation of India Road, Nanjappa Road and Gandhi maanagar. The engineers in respective divisions led by assistant commissioners were carrying out the drive. The focus would be initially on high-end defaulters. Sensitisation of the public was being done through news reports and advertisements. Auto rickshaws with public address systems have been pressed into service.
