4 Day Lok Adalat

A. Ramamurthi (centre), former Judge of the Madras High Court, hearing a case on the last day of the four-day Continuous Lok Adalat in the city on Friday. As many as 90 cases were disposed of awarding a settlement of Rs. 25 lakh in the four-day Continuous Lok Adalats that concluded at Coimbatore on Friday.
The adalats helped in disposal of 62 matrimonial disputes awarding a settlement of Rs. 3.75 lakh.

In order to reduce the pendency of cases and to reduce the back log, the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, A.P. Shah ordered for conducting lok adalats for disposal of cases through Alternative Dispute Redressal Systems (ADRS). The Principal District Sessions Judge and Chairman of Coimbatore District Legal Services Authority, G. Chockalingam made arrangements for the adalat that commenced on April 8.
The first day lok adalat was conducted by R. Balasubramanian, Advisor, Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority, while the remaining three days’ adalat was conducted by Justice A. Ramamurthy, retired Judge of the Madras High Court. He was assisted by retired District Judges, R. Rangasamy and P. Balasubramanian. The adalats helped in disposal of 62 matrimonial disputes awarding a settlement of Rs. 3.75 lakh.
