Coimbatore MP K. Subbarayan has urged the Union Government to find a solution to the demands of the contract workers of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) at the earliest. In a memorandum to the Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment and the Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Mr. Subbarayan said that 13,000 contract workers of the corporation were on strike from March 29 demanding bonus as per Bonus Act, medical benefits, equal pay for equal work and work permanency.
The agitation was expected to intensify in the coming days and this could affect power generation in the State.
Hence, he appealed to the Centre “to intervene and advise the management to settle the issue amicably.”
