Now, there were reports of the Corporation trying to crackdown on all plastic items.
Association president G. Sankaran, president of Tamil Nadu Vanigargal Sanga Peravai Vellaiyan and president of the Coimbatore Plastics Traders and Manufacturers’ Association, T. Parthiban said on Sunday that plastic bags and other items of a certain micron level had been banned by the Central Government. Now, there were reports of the Corporation trying to crackdown on all plastic items.
Instead of adopting this approach, the Corporation would be able to eliminate the menace of garbage by following the Solid Waste Management Rules. Only the rules introduced in 1999, governing the manufacturing, storing and use of plastics, should be enforced. The association also called for sensitising the people to the need for protecting the environment.
