Relocate The Airport To Rural Area
The Vivasayigal Sangham, a non-political organisation, has asked the Union and State Governments to drop its present plans to acquire land for the expansion of the Coimbatore Airport and suggested relocating the airport to a rural area. The association president, N.S. Palanisamy, the secretary Arunachalam and the district president, A.K. Shanmugam, told reporters here that the present plan of expanding the airport would result in acquisition of a number of residential colonies. It will adversely affect many small industrial units and mills. even agricultural land had to be acquired, they said.

Hence, as was done in Hyderabad and Bangalore, the airport should be constructed away from the city limits. It would help businessmen and air travellers from Tirupur and Erode too. Wasteland could be acquired for the purpose. They demanded compensation for farmers who have suffered crop loss in the untimely rain.
