Shanthi Manivannan, widow of Col.Manivannan, who was killed in a blizzard in Jammu and Kashmir in September 2007, received an ex-gratia of Rs. 1 lakh from the Tamil Nadu Government on Thursday. According to an official release, Col.Manivannan hailed from Pollachi in this district.While he was engaged in anti-terrorist operations on September 24, 2007, the accident took place. As directed by the State Government, the District Collector, V.Palanikumar, handed over a cheque for Rs. 1 lakh to the widow at the Collectorate.
